Beginning Watercolor – Jomok
Instructor: Manny Jomok
Watercolor has inherent characteristics that, because of its fluidity, can produce an exciting expression that can be bold or subtle. This course will teach techniques to produce loose, spontaneous brush strokes that “indicate not duplicate” what is seen; applying paint in a way that’s different from other mediums, even from some other watercolor methods taught. The course will teach traditional realism in the manner found in the paintings of Homer, Sargent, Monet and the Impressionists as they dealt with the concept of light and how light affects form, color, value and composition. Students will first learn a brief history of watercolor, which will enhance their appreciation of the medium. They will learn about materials, equipment and terminology associated with watercolors. The primary goals of this beginner’s class are to learn basic watercolor painting skills and to apply these skills to create a successful work of art using a photo image.
